We founded Holvi in 2011, in Helsinki. As self-employed people wading through oceans of paperwork, we noticed something funny going on – traditional banks were giving us the cold shoulder. Why not help ourselves? We asked. And so, with time and effort (and lots of coffee), we mastered small business finance – and Holvi was born.

Our vision is simple: Eliminate the distractions of financial admin and simplify work life, because running a business is hard enough. Small businesses shouldn’t have to worry about spreadsheets and lost receipts.

Right now, we’re looking for a hands-on Head of Legal to join our team in Helsinki. If you want to help us make self-employment a little easier, Holvi is for you. You’ll be reporting to our CFO.

Do it once and do it right

As the Head of Legal, you will lead our legal team and provide strategic legal guidance to Holvi’s leadership. This role is pivotal in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance while supporting business operations with expert legal advice. You will work closely with senior management and the Board of Directors to drive Holvi’s legal strategy and mitigate legal risks.

A typical week could see you:

• Strategic legal advising: Provide high-level legal guidance to the senior management and Board of Directors

• Legal & regulatory compliance: Oversee and manage legal issues and disputes in all markets where Holvi operates

• Regulatory and supervisory authority relations: Advise on and manage interactions with the financial supervisory authorities and other regulatory bodies

• Team leadership: Lead and develop the Legal team, ensuring strong legal governance across all business functions

• Business and product support: Provide legal insights to ensure that product development and initiatives comply with regulatory frameworks

• Regulatory monitoring: Ensure that the organisation remains updated on key regulatory changes affecting Holvi

• Regulatory risk management: Track and assess regulatory changes at both the EU level and domestically (Finland, Germany and Austria)

• Corporate governance: Ensure the integrity of the governance framework, maintain accountability for efficient company management, and keep relevant registrations up-to-date

• Contract management: Advise on legal risks and contractual risks by drafting and supporting the business with negotiating contracts with local and international cooperation partners

• Policies and documentation: Oversee the localisation and modification of terms and conditions and other publicly available guidelines to meet local regulatory requirements

• Employment law and People support: Support the Human Resources team with local labor law compliance, including employment contracts and amendments

This is for you if you:

• Have a Master’s degree in law from a recognised university

• Have 5+ years of experience in a legal or compliance-related role, preferably within financial services, fintech, or a regulated industry as a Head of Legal or Legal Counsel

• Have strong expertise in corporate, contract, and regulatory law, particularly in Finland and the EU

• Have the ability to navigate complex financial sector regulations and provide strategic legal guidance

• Have experience in liaising with authorities and managing external legal advisors

• Have excellent contract negotiation, risk management, and governance skills

• Have strong analytical skills with the ability to assess regulatory impacts on business operations.

• Are fluent in English and Finnish (both written and spoken, German is a plus); our day to day working language is English

Logistics

• This is a permanent full-time position

• You’ll be headquartered in our sleek office in Helsinki. We are working in an office/remote hybrid setup, two office days per week are expected
