We founded Holvi in 2011 in Helsinki. As self-employed people wading through oceans of paperwork, we noticed something funny going on: traditional banks were giving us the cold shoulder. Why not help ourselves, we asked. And so, with time, effort and lots of coffee, we mastered small business finance and Holvi was born.

Our vision is simple: eliminate the distractions of financial admin and simplify work life, because running a business is hard enough. Small businesses shouldn’t have to worry about spreadsheets and lost receipts.

We’re now looking for a full-time Senior Backend Engineer to join our Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable (ARAP) product team.

The ARAP team is building a comprehensive sales and expense management platform for small and medium-sized businesses, covering areas such as invoice management, bookkeeping and payment card-related services.

Our culture is built on respect, low hierarchy and ownership. Engineers help shape solutions, not just implement specifications.

Backend is your home base but not necessarily your boundary.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll help shape the future of our ARAP platform as part of a cross-functional team.

Most of your work will be on the backend, with Python and Django at the core of our stack. But we build products, not isolated backend components, so we’d love to find someone comfortable occasionally crossing into our frontend clients when that’s the best way to get something done.

You’ll work closely with engineers, Product and Design, taking ideas from customer or business needs through solution design, implementation and safely into production.

AI-assisted development is increasingly part of how we work. We expect our engineers to be comfortable with modern AI-enhanced tools and workflows and to know how to use them effectively without outsourcing their engineering judgement, security awareness or responsibility for quality.

This is for you if you:

• have solid senior-level software engineering experience and can take ownership of technically demanding work

• have strong backend skills with Python and Django, or substantial experience with a comparable framework and the ability to get productive with Django quickly

• can refine requirements and develop solutions collaboratively and iteratively

• take ownership and push your work forward

• are willing to occasionally work outside the backend, including making changes to frontend clients when needed

• use, or are ready to actively use, AI-assisted development tools and workflows

• communicate clearly and in plain language

• are fluent in spoken and written English

It's a plus if you:

• are highly proficient with AI-assisted development and have built effective workflows around coding, testing, reviewing, debugging or software design

• have experience with large, long-lived codebases

• are familiar with AWS, Docker, test automation and CI/CD

• have experience with web development, frontend development or API integrations

• understand relational databases and data modelling

• have experience in fintech or financial services, particularly payment processing, invoicing, accounting or bookkeeping systems

You'll get:

• €5,300–€6,500/month – The exact salary will depend on your skills, experience and relevant background.

Logistics

• Full-time, permanent position

• Location: Helsinki metropolitan area or Berlin (hybrid), or remote from Spain or other parts of Finland and Germany

• Working hours: core hours 10:00–15:00 local time; the rest is up to you

• We work in a hybrid model with two or more days per week at the office. If you’re located outside the Berlin or Helsinki area, we’re happy to consider a fully remote setup.
